The Centre of Continuing Education at Comenius University in Bratislava was established in 2004 as a self-managed part of Comenius University. But the history of some of their departments dates back to year 1960. We educate adults and provide a broad portfolio of training programmes for improving knowledge, skills, and abilities of professional and personal development. Our programmes are provided by qualified professionals with years of experience in the field of lifelong learning and three self-directed departments:

Department for Continual, competency and career education (educational programmes for public, educational programmes for teachers, educational programmes for foreign nationals - compatriots);

University of the Third Age (UTA);
The Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies for foreigners and compatriots and Foreign Languages.

Study programs of the University of the Third Age at Comenius University in Bratislava are prepared in collaboration with the faculties of Comenius University in Bratislava and many specialists from the practice. It offers more than 40 study branches prepared especially for the older students. Studying at UTA takes the form of non-formal study. Students in the first year enroll in common background courses, created from the entry level materials of the study branches. During the second and third study year, the students focus entirely on their select study branch. Lectures take place every 14 days, consisting of a single two-hour lecture. The specific timeframe depends on the individual study branch, but always takes place during the work week.

Study at UTA is open to persons in age over 50 who have graduated high school. There are no entry-level exams; students are accepted solely on the order of application. Today, the UTA has almost 2000 students, with another 200 participating in the UTA Club. After completing the three-year study, the graduates receive their certificates during the ceremony in the Hall of Comenius University.

Since 2000 we have successfully realized various international projects on different topics. It gives a chance to the seniors to support their active ageing and to share their knowledge. For example, project EFOCES, VECU, EduSenNet and recently project SeLiD as Erasmus+ for older students. During 2003 - 2015, the UTA at Comenius University presided over the Slovak Association of UTAs, which is formed by 18 universities with a total of more than 7.800 senior students in Slovakia. UTA is active in the Danube regional strategy since the year 2011, is a member of the International Association of UTAs (AIUTA), member of the European Federation of Older Students at Universities (EFOS) and of the Danube Association of seniors (DANET). Since the year 2003 is our UTA a place of the presidency of EFOS. The projects are coordinated by the project manager PhDr. Nadežda Hrapková, PhD.
