President Charles Afolabi of U3A Nigeria opened, in the presence of the authorities of Ibadan, the AIUTA international conference organized by U3A Nigeria on the theme “Gerontological education in Africa today and in the future, and gerontology as a field of study for Nigerian universities.” Many speakers took part in this conference, which was chaired by H.E. Oloye Lekan Alabi, Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland. Notably among the speakers were Professor François Vellas, President of AIUTA; President Sidi Camara of UNITRA Senegal, High Representative of AIUTA for West and Central Africa; and Professor Oluwafemi Esan of El Roi University, London, UK. U3A Nigeria will develop, in close cooperation with AIUTA, a “hub” for Universities of the Third Age based in Nigeria for English-speaking African countries.
