At the invitation of the Mayor of Rivière-Pilote, Nicole Duchel, President of the University of the Third Age Madinina officially launched UNITRA Martinique together with Professor François Vellas, President of AIUTA, at the Rivière-Pilote community hall on Wednesday, February 11th, 2026. Representatives of senior citizens’ associations from Martinique attended the ceremony alongside Prof. Fred Celimene, Dr. Hector, Elisabeth, Dr. Elisa Paulin from the University of the French West Indies, as well as the Director of the IES of the Republic of Haiti. This initiative, supported by AIUTA, aims to establish a network of Universities of the Third Age covering all municipalities of Martinique. The example of UNITRA Martinique is intended to serve as a foundation and model for the development of Universities of the Third Age throughout the Caribbean region.
