The Minister of Higher Education and Research, Eléonore Yayi Ladékan, the Minister of Social Affairs and Technical Secondary Education and Vocational Training, Véronique Tognifodé, and the Rector of the University of Abomey-Calavi, Charlemagne Igue, officially opened, alongside Professor François Vellas, President of AIUTA and Nicole Duchel, President UNITRA Benin, the AIUTA and UNITRA Conference on the development of Universities of the Third Age in West and Central Africa, held at the University of Abomey-Calavi, Republic of Benin, on Monday, January 27, 2026, in the presence of more than 1,000 participants. The presentations highlighted the strong development of Universities of the Third Age in Benin, alongside initiatives in West and Central African countries, notably with representatives from Togo, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. AIUTA will provide support to promote the development of lifelong learning and research for the benefit of older persons throughout West and Central Africa.
