Janka Chladecka, Director of the University of the Third Age at the University of Economics and Management in Bratislava, Slovakia, spoke at the international conference organized by AIUTA and FEDERUNI in Bari, alongside Mohammed Kayal from SUAD University in Abu Dhabi. Their presentations addressed the issue of isolation among older people and the responses provided by Universities of the Third Age. During the closed session of the AIUTA Board of Directors, Janka Chladecka was elected Second Vice-President of the International Association of Universities of the Third Age. Mohammed Kayal also contributed to the discussions with a presentation on how Universities of the Third Age can support recently retired people who have pursued careers in the military or the police, with a view to identifying appropriate approaches and developing lifelong learning programmes tailored to their needs. This emerging challenge for Universities of the Third Age will be discussed at the next seminar, to be held at the Nueva Granada Military University (UMNG) in Bogotá in 2027.
